Day at St. Kilda Melbourne
This day we took the public transport Tram system from nearby our hotel to the beach suburb of St. Kilda. St. kilda is about 6km from central Melbourne. It is known for various attractions, including a old style amusement park, historic pier, beautiful beach, lively main street with funky businesses and diversity of residents and businesses.
The tram takes you right to the heart of St. Kilda’a main business street. We arrived in St. Kilda in mid morning in time for a coffee and snack at a local cafe. We then strolled the retail district and made our way to the pier. It was a Sunday and this was the day of the Esplanade Market. This has various booths setup offering lots of arts and crafts and food. Nearby the market is the St. Kilda Sea Baths, a swimming and bathing club open to the public, which is very close to the main pier. Unfortunately part of the pier was being renovated so we could not walk out to the end. We walked the main part of the beach and nearby park, before returning to the main business area to secure a late lunch. By late afternoon we took the tram back to Melbourne central and visited a church on this Easter Sunday and the nearby the Carlton Gardens. We had some take out supper to allow us to pack up our luggage for our next adventure, renting a car and leaving Melbourne the next morning for the famous “Great Ocean Road”.
