Drive to Christchurch (prepare for Australia!)
We departed Dunedin for Christchurch, a drive of about 360km, 5 hours (not including stops). We departed around 10am and made a couple of stops along the way. The first was at Moeraki Beach near Hampden to have a look at the Moeraki Boulders. These are quirky rocks that sit on a beautiful seaside beach. It seems like a bit of a tourist thing but the beach is nice and we did have a coffee at the cafe. From there we made another stop for food and one for gas. We arrived back in Christchurch and stayed at the same motel we had stayed earlier on this trip. We dropped the car off at the rental company and went for supper at a nice nearby Thai restaurant called Kum Pun. On our last day in New Zealand we walked around Christchurch some more, went to the Quake City exhibition, back to the Botanical Gardens and then back to the hotel after a nice supper Ramen Ria. We had to pack up for flights in the morning to Melbourne.
We had an absolutely awesome time in New Zealand. Spectacular scenery at every turn and very kind and friendly people wherever you go. There will be another post with some other (all good) observations about New Zealand.
Here are some pics from these last couple of days in NewZealand:
